Guatamala - Mayan Culture and Communities

January 8-14, 2011

Tour Cost: $2300 per person double occupancy plus $925 Extension to Tikal Mayan Ruins

Journey through Mayan culture alongside visits with education programs, women's cooperatives and sustainable farming initiatives

  • Visit SAFE PASSAGE program providing education to children living near the City Garbage Dump
  • Meet with local coffee farmers and learn about sustainable microfinance projects
  • Visit woman’s artisan cooperatives, learn the art of weaving as well as help prepare local Mayan delicacies
  • Tour San Juan village around Lake Atitlan-- visit school for the disabled and view Habitat for Humanity home sites

Thailand and Laos - Exotic Temples, Villages and Education Program

February 4-13, 2011 (extension to Laos 13-16th)

Tour Cost: $3300 per person double occupancy plus $1300 Extension to Laos

Visit the highlights of exotic Thailand alongside visits with development programs assisting at risk women and children and Burmese refugees and programs initiated after the tsunami. Spend a day caring for abused elephants at a sanctuary in Chiang Mai and 2 days in a southern beachside village learning the day-to day rhythms of Thai life. Enjoy authentic boutique accommodations throughout. Optional extension to Luang Prabang, Laos for a taste of blessed Buddhist tranquility along the Mekong and an inside look at an education program supporting children from local rural villages.

  • Explore the bustling streets of Bangkok, its markets, canals and temples
  • Visit with a community-based program initiated after the tsunami – learn to cook, share stories and try your hand at their artisan projects.
  • Bring school supplies to a village school and spend a day teaching English.
  • Spend a day taking care of abused and neglected elephants at the Elephant Nature Park

Trip Overview

Explore the beauty of Uganda while visiting various programs aimed at poverty alleviation

  • Get an on-the-ground orientation to the holistic approach BeadforLife is taking to eradicate poverty and create sustainable livelihoods
  • Visit with and HIV prevention team as well as other important health and education initiatives.
  • Immerse yourself into the daily life of Ugandan women – join them as they go to the market, farm, cook and bead.
  • Learn about how music is used to help street children through the M-Lisada Orphanage.
  • Meet with the Boomu Women’s Group fighting poverty in the area by creating economic and social development.
  • Go on safari in majestic Murchison Falls National Park– Track chimpanzees in Budongo Forest at the Jane Goodall Institute.
